Mehdi Kabbaj, the ex-husband of Soukaina Benjelloun, widely known in the media as «the woman with the most expensive divorce in Morocco», has announced that he is withdrawing his defamation complaint against her, without seeking any financial compensation. He said his only conditions are «ethical guarantees that ensure mutual respect and protect the best interests of the children». In a public statement, he explained that he had already informed the other party «officially and clearly» of his willingness to drop the complaint, stressing that the well-being of the children remains his top priority, despite what he described as «significant harm and attempts to damage his reputation». He also expressed regret over what he called irresponsible behavior on social media by members of his ex-wife's family. Kabbaj emphasized that he has never prevented her from seeing the children, adding that her absence was «a personal choice». He concluded by noting that «the ball is not solely in my court», explaining that the next step depends on «the other party's commitment to ethical standards, followed by the judiciary's decision to accept the withdrawal». It should be noted that Soukain Benjelloun was placed in the Casablanca local prison on Thursday evening after being referred by the public prosecutor at the Casablanca Criminal Court, following a defamation complaint filed by her ex-husband.
