The Brussels prosecutor's office confirmed on Wednesday that the complaint filed by three Jewish organizations against Brussels MP Fouad Ahidar (Team Fouad Ahidar) has been dismissed. The Moroccan-born lawmaker had previously announced this decision after the public prosecutor concluded that no offense had been committed. Ahidar expressed «immense relief» over the outcome. The complaint originated in February 2024, following an interview with Ahidar on the YouTube channel Zinneke.tv in November 2023. During the interview, the deputy compared Israel's offensive in Gaza to the Holocaust, describing the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023, as a «small reaction» after years of Israeli violence. The Coordination Committee of Jewish Organizations in Belgium (CCOJB), the Jewish Secular Community Center (CCLJ), and the Forum der Joodse Organisaties (FJO) took legal action, arguing that these remarks violated anti-discrimination laws and laws against Holocaust denial. Sarah Gillet, speaking on behalf of the prosecutor's office and quoted by Belga, stated that «after a thorough legal analysis, which was also submitted to the Attorney General», it was concluded that «the elements constituting the offense were not present, and there was no reason to prosecute Mr. Ahidar». The deputy later noted that this decision echoed the findings of the Center for Equal Opportunities (Unia), which had previously stated that there was no evidence to suggest any anti-Semitic statements on his part. Ahidar emphasized that «the fight against anti-Semitism is too serious and too important to be diverted from the demands of seriousness, honesty, and responsibility».
