Following the approval of a legal framework in August 2020 for the development of a national defense industry, Morocco is moving forward with its strategy through the creation of the Defense Industrial Zones Management Company (SGZID), as announced in the Official Bulletin dated June 5. On May 22, the government authorized the Military Housing and Equipment Agency (ALEM) and MEDZ, a subsidiary of the Deposit and Management Fund (CDG) specializing in industrial park development, to establish the SGZID, according to the official document. This initiative aligns with directives issued by King Mohammed VI during the cabinet meeting held on June 1, 2024. The objective is to develop two industrial zones dedicated to «defense industries related to defense and security equipment and materials, as well as weapons and ammunition», according to a statement from the royal cabinet. As a reminder, a strategic partnership agreement was signed on November 8, 2023, by the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the National Defense Administration, the CDG, and ALEM. The SGZID is being launched with an initial capital of 300,000 dirhams, shared equally between ALEM and MEDZ.
