Around 50 Moroccan migrants, most of them minors, managed to enter the Spanish Ceuta over the weekend, taking advantage of the thick fog that blanketed the area and hampered security surveillance along the border. According to official data, the majority of the migrants crossed through the maritime barrier at Tarajal, while fewer cases were recorded near Benzú and along the border fence. It is believed that several minors entered undetected, benefiting from the limited visibility and the diversion of security forces. Local media reported that one minor crossed on Friday, 10 on Saturday, and 32 on Sunday. These numbers correspond to those admitted into local shelters, though the actual figure may be higher, as some are believed to have entered without being registered. Cameras from local media outlets captured images of minors attempting to flee en masse after crossing the maritime barrier, despite efforts by Moroccan authorities, who deployed boats to intercept the crossings. Official figures show that Ceuta is currently hosting 423 minors, accommodated between the «La Esperanza» center and other emergency facilities, an occupancy rate exceeding 381% of capacity. The spokesperson for Ceuta's local government, Alejandro Ramírez, voiced concern over the situation, stating: «The number of minors in Ceuta is 24 times the national average, and 65% of them are housed in emergency centers». He called for the urgent implementation of the national agreement to redistribute unaccompanied minors among Spain's autonomous regions.
