A pregnant woman and her newborn tragically died on Sunday evening while being transferred from the regional hospital in Zagora to the Sidi Hssayne Ben Nacer hospital in Ouarzazate, more than 160 kilometers away, along the treacherous mountainous road that winds through the Ait Saoun bends. According to media reports, the woman, a mother of a three-year-old girl from the village of Ksar Oulad Youssef, had undergone a cesarean section at the Zagora hospital. The baby was delivered in a state of asphyxia, requiring urgent transfer to Ouarzazate, while the mother suffered severe hemorrhaging after the operation. The same sources noted that the absence of an anesthesiologist at the regional hospital prompted the decision to transfer both mother and child. Tragically, neither survived the journey.
