The Unified Socialist Party (PSU) has officially presented its memorandum on the 2026 legislative elections to the Ministry of the Interior. The party is pushing for the direct participation of Moroccans living abroad, in line with Article 77 of the Constitution, but with a notable exception: it excludes members of the Moroccan community residing in Israel from this electoral process. «Any Moroccan citizen who has served in the Israeli occupation army or held military, political, or civil positions in the occupying state is strictly prohibited from running for elections or voting», assert the colleagues of Jamal El Asri, the PSU's Secretary General. This restriction extends to «any Moroccan who has served in foreign armies», as highlighted in the document. The PSU is notably active alongside the Islamist group Al Adl wal Ihsane in demonstrations and sit-ins regularly organized by the Moroccan Front to support Palestine and oppose normalization, condemning the genocide of Palestinians. It's important to note that approximately one million Moroccan Jews live in Israel. Back in 2013, several Moroccan political parties (PJD, PAM, PPS, USFP, and Istiqlal) proposed laws to penalize any act of normalization with Israel, which included prison terms and fines for violators. However, these proposals were ultimately shelved. Morocco reestablished its diplomatic ties with Israel on December 10, 2020.
