On Thursday, a delegation from the Kenyan Senate's Special Committee on County Public Investments and Special Funds visited Dakhla, marking a significant step in fostering bilateral ties. This visit offered Kenyan lawmakers a firsthand glimpse into the region's vibrant development and major ongoing projects, while also opening doors for potential cooperation and partnerships with local institutional and economic entities. Godfrey Osotsi, leading the Kenyan delegation, emphasized that this visit «is part of strengthening cooperative relations between the two countries». He pointed out that some Kenyan regions have already forged twinning agreements with the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region. Osotsi highlighted Kenya's endorsement of the Moroccan autonomy plan for Western Sahara, a stance reaffirmed on May 25 in Rabat by Kenyan Foreign Minister Musalia Mudavadi during discussions with his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita. The Kenyan Senate has been pivotal in bridging the gap between Rabat and Nairobi. In December 2023, the upper house of Kenya's Parliament urged President William Ruto to establish an embassy in Morocco. However, it is important to note that Kenya has not yet severed its ties with the Polisario.
