Speaking under the veil of anonymity, a security expert told MAP that the dispersal of last weekend's demonstrations, organized at the call of «Gen Z 212», was carried out in a balanced manner. These interventions have been sharply criticized by some political parties and opposition movements. According to the expert, «the intervention by law enforcement to prohibit these gatherings, initiated by unknown entities, was conducted in a way that preserved public order while ensuring the safety of both officers and demonstrators». He stressed that the units deployed «were not equipped with service weapons or the usual crowd-control tools such as batons, water cannon trucks, or tear gas, which are generally used to disperse gatherings». After informing participants of the prohibition, «law enforcement peacefully escorted away those who refused to comply, without resorting to legitimate force», he added. The expert noted that «a minority of people refused to comply, necessitating their arrest and identity verification under the supervision of competent prosecutors at the nearest police stations. They were then immediately released without any restriction on their freedoms, in accordance with legal procedures». On custody measures applied to some protesters in Rabat and Casablanca, the expert explained that these were «legal measures ordered by the prosecutor, after identifying acts constituting criminal offenses punishable by law, committed by certain participants». He expressed satisfaction that no injuries or acts of violence were recorded during either the demonstrations or the law enforcement interventions. Likewise, no material damage to public or private property was reported. «Public authorities will not tolerate any threat to public safety or breaches of public order following anonymous calls on social networks, outside the legal frameworks governing public gatherings», he concluded.
