A tripartite partnership agreement was signed on Wednesday in Erfoud between the National Institute of Agronomic Research (INRA), the National Agency for the Development of Oasian and Argan Tree Areas (ANDZOA), and the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (OADA). The agreement aims to enhance the sustainability of agricultural and ecological systems in Morocco's oasis and argan regions. Signed on the sidelines of the 14th International Date Fair in Morocco (SIDATTES 2025), the agreement seeks to strengthen resilience in oasis and argan ecosystems, which are increasingly threatened by drought, resource degradation, erosion, and biodiversity loss. The initiative also aims to reinforce the scientific and technical capacities of research institutions and local actors, promote natural resource conservation, combat desertification, and encourage knowledge transfer and experience sharing to foster inclusive local development, particularly benefiting youth and women. INRA Director Lamiae Ghaouti stated that this partnership seeks to promote sustainability in these areas through the preservation of genetic and natural resources and the promotion of research-driven solutions and innovation. She added that INRA will conduct applied research to support oasis farmers, developing practical solutions for water management, soil fertility, palm tree disease control, and the valorization of dates in the agri-food sector. For his part, Kamal Lamhasni, Director of Oasis Development at ANDZOA, emphasized that the agreement represents an opportunity to revitalize partnerships and serves as a roadmap for sustainable development models in fragile ecosystems. Held under the auspices of the Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests, SIDATTES 2025 hosts around 230 exhibitors and expects to welcome more than 90,000 visitors.
