As Morocco prepares to host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the country has launched an ambitious program to train 15,000 volunteers from across the kingdom, including over 1,000 African students living in Morocco, to support the organization of the tournament's final phase, scheduled from December 21 to January 18. The program, launched last Friday, is being implemented by the Local Organizing Committee of AFCON in partnership with the Office of Vocational Training and Employment Promotion (OFPPT). Described as a unique initiative, it aims to train Moroccan and African youth in hospitality, guidance, and fan assistance, ensuring a welcoming and well-organized experience for visitors and supporters throughout the event. According to Chaymae Kiani, an OFPPT official, instructors are overseeing the training of all 15,000 volunteers to prepare them for active participation in the success of this major continental tournament. She explained that the two-day training allows participants to showcase Morocco's renowned hospitality and professionalism, while embodying the country's values during the event. Kiani emphasized that volunteering culture plays an essential role in enhancing Morocco's sporting image and ensuring that major events become memorable experiences for both visitors and citizens. Volunteer Chaimae El Hayyani said the program offers an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of welcoming, guiding, and managing crowds during AFCON. She added that the training also prepares volunteers to engage with the public in train stations, airports, and hotels, not just inside stadiums. For her part, Meryem Keita, a volunteer from Mali, expressed her pride in taking part in the program, noting that it highlights the spirit of hospitality that characterizes Morocco. She added that the course strengthens communication, teamwork, and cultural exchange skills among participants. The training initiative covers over 70 OFPPT centers nationwide and involves more than 150 instructors, who are guiding volunteers in acquiring key professional and interpersonal skills ahead of AFCON 2025.
