DR ‹ › The Polisario Front appears intent on revisiting the events of 2019. In recent days, its supporters and sympathizers have launched a social media campaign calling on their allies in the Sahara to take advantage of any street celebrations in Laayoune and Dakhla, should Algeria win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, to carry out acts of vandalism. Messages encouraging such actions have been circulating online for the past two days. For the record, on July 19, 2019, Algeria's Fennecs won the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt after defeating Senegal in the final. The victory sparked celebrations in several cities across the Kingdom. In Laayoune, however, individuals linked to the Polisario exploited the festive atmosphere to target public and private property. Law enforcement subsequently intervened to restore order. Tragically, the operation resulted in the death of a young woman who was struck by a vehicle. In the aftermath, Polisario-affiliated associations in the Sahara used the incident to call for «urgent intervention by the international community, the African Union, the European Union, international human rights organizations, the media, and all democrats» in the region. At the same time, the former Polisario «Minister of Foreign Affairs», Mohamed Salem Ould Salek, held a press conference in Algiers devoted entirely to the death of the Sahrawi woman.
