DR ‹ › Last week, the Rabat Court of Appeal delivered its verdict in a case involving two police commissioners accused of embezzling seized items and falsifying official documents. The court upheld the initial ruling, sentencing both men to two years in prison, including 14 months to be served and the remainder suspended. The case involves a senior police commissioner who headed a security precinct in Khemisset and his deputy, both of whom have been in detention since 2023. According to the newspaper Al-Akhbar, the case centers on suspicions of tampering with a mobile phone seized for forensic examination in a case related to marital infidelity. The device was allegedly replaced with another phone containing no data. Investigations carried out by the judicial division of the National Police uncovered irregularities in the drafting of official reports. Technical analyses conducted by the scientific and technical services of the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) also revealed manipulation of the originally seized item. Based on the findings of the investigation, the Public Prosecutor's Office charged the commissioner who drafted the report as well as his superior who approved it. The case was then referred to an investigating judge, who conducted a detailed inquiry before sending it to trial. After the investigation and court proceedings were completed, the Primary Criminal Chamber convicted the two officials and issued the aforementioned sentence. The ruling was later upheld on appeal, bringing the judicial proceedings in the case to a close.
