Nabila Mounib ‹ › After five years apart, the Unified Socialist Party (PSU) and the Democratic Left Federation (FDG) are moving to reconnect. With the legislative elections scheduled for September 23, 2026 approaching, the two groups are exploring electoral coordination. The issue was at the center of a meeting between the general secretaries of both parties. Following the meeting, a technical committee was set up to establish a coordination framework for the upcoming elections. Its main task is to remove obstacles to presenting joint candidates, drawing in particular on the results of the September 8, 2021 elections. Under the proposed approach, the party that secured the most votes in each constituency in the previous elections would lead the list for the 2026 legislative polls. A source within the PSU's political bureau told Yabiladi that negotiations were making significant progress. The two groups have reportedly reached agreement in most constituencies. However, disagreements persist in Casablanca's Anfa district, where several prominent figures from both the PSU and the FDG are seeking to run. On the PSU side, deputy general secretary Abdellah Abaakil has already expressed his intention to represent the party. Meanwhile, MPs Nabila Mounib (PSU) and Fatima Tamni (FDG), both elected in September 2021, are also vying for the spot. The issue stems from provisions in Morocco's political party law, which prevent the two women from seeking two consecutive terms via regional lists. As a result, they are now compelled to run in local constituencies if they hope to return to the House of Representatives. These rival ambitions could complicate efforts to finalize coordination between the two parties. In the 2021 legislative elections, both the PSU and the FDG secured just one seat each in the House of Representatives, both through the regional list.
