On Tuesday, April 29, the South African Embassy in Algeria hosted a meeting of the «Diplomatic Forum in Support of the Sahrawi People», bringing together a select group of Polisario allies. Attendees included diplomats from Mozambique, Namibia, Cuba, Venezuela, Colombia, and Algeria. The gathering came just two days after South Africa's national holiday celebrations, during which President Cyril Ramaphosa expressed support for the Polisario in a public message. «We stand with the peoples of Palestine and Western Sahara», declared the South African head of state. Algeria and South Africa regularly take turns organizing forums, conferences, and diplomatic initiatives aimed at bolstering the Polisario Front's position, particularly across the African continent. A recent example is the memorandum of understanding signed on April 2 between the Secretary-General of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the Polisario. The agreement was condemned by Malawi, the Union of the Comoros, Zambia, and Eswatini—member states of the regional bloc seeking to push back against Pretoria's influence.
