Sofia Acedo, an MP from the Spanish People's Party in Melilla, has called for the coordinated repatriation of unaccompanied minor migrants to Morocco, arguing that dismissing this option is a «mistake» as it encourages irregular migration and exposes children to numerous risks. Speaking before the Interior Committee of the House of Representatives, Acedo expressed her support for a non-binding bill proposed by the Vox Party on the matter, describing it as consistent with her party's long-standing immigration policy. The MP also strongly criticized Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez's government, accusing it of taking a «hypocritical» stance on the issue of unaccompanied minors. She cited the situation in Melilla in 2018, when the city received around 2,000 minors, and accused the central government of «abandoning the city despite repeated calls for help». Acedo also recalled that Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska had pledged to collaborate with Morocco on the issue, but claimed those promises «were never fulfilled».
