A Court in Salé has awarded a lawyer from the Rabat Bar Association compensation of 1,000 dirhams. The decision followed a lawsuit he filed against the owner of a gym in the city, after photos and videos of him working out there were published without his prior consent. According to case details, the lawyer was surprised to discover visual content of himself exercising alongside another person on the gym's official Instagram page. This prompted him to take legal action. His defense argued that he had a valid subscription contract with the gym, and that the publication of this content without his permission constituted a breach of the gym's contractual obligations and a violation of his right to privacy. Despite the ruling in his favor, the lawyer expressed dissatisfaction with what he described as the «meager» compensation, noting that he spent over 5,000 dirhams on legal expenses while receiving only 1,000 dirhams in damages, as reported by the newspaper Assabah. The newspaper also noted that the lawyer had initially sought compensation of 1 million centimes (10,000 dirhams). The plaintiff hopes the Court of Appeal will deliver a more favorable ruling after he filed an appeal against the initial decision, seeking recognition of the moral and material harm he claims to have suffered.
