The Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS) has joined the Moroccan voices condemning Israel's recent strikes on Iran. «The PPS observes with deep concern the extremely dangerous developments in the Middle East, stemming from the heinous and unacceptable attack carried out by the Zionist entity against the Iranian people. This constitutes a blatant violation of a nation's sovereignty and a serious infringement on its people and institutions», read a statement from Nabil Benabdellah's party. The PPS emphasized that its position is rooted in its support for peace, its rejection of war, and its commitment to the principles and rules of international law. At the same time, the party noted its «reservations and disagreements» with the Iranian regime's positions on key issues concerning Morocco, recalling that Iran has recognized the so-called «Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR)» since 1980. Drawing on its communist heritage, the PPS affirmed that «this brutal Zionist aggression against the Iranian people is politically, logistically, diplomatically, and in the media, supported by imperialist powers, posing serious risks to both regional and global peace». The statement concluded by linking the latest escalation to Israel's ongoing war in Gaza, describing it as a «Zionist-imperialist aggression» that follows systematic attacks by Israel on «our brother countries, Lebanon and Syria». It's worth recalling that in November 2023, the PPS called on the Moroccan government to reconsider its diplomatic relations with Israel.
