The Central American Parliament (PARLACEN) has reaffirmed its support for Morocco's autonomy initiative for Western Sahara. During its General Assembly meeting on Wednesday in San Salvador, the institution expressed its backing for «the autonomy plan proposed by the Kingdom of Morocco as the only serious, pragmatic, and credible solution to the Sahara conflict», while also reaffirming its support for Morocco's territorial integrity, according to MAP. PARLACEN called on the international community to support diplomatic and political efforts to reach a definitive and peaceful resolution to the dispute, ensuring regional stability and respect for Morocco's sovereignty, the same source added. This resolution coincided with the visit of Mohamed Ould Errachid, President of Morocco's Chamber of Advisors, to El Salvador. Alongside Salvadoran Vice President Félix Ulloa, he inaugurated the Parliamentary Economic Forum on Investment and Development in San Salvador. As a reminder, a delegation from the Central American Parliament, led by its president Carlos Hernández, visited Morocco from April 14 to 19, including a stop in Laayoune. PARLACEN's support for Morocco's autonomy proposal follows a declaration of support for the Polisario, read on May 28 at the parliament's headquarters in Panama City by José Antonio Zepeda, vice-president of PARLACEN's left-wing group and representative of Nicaragua. That declaration was followed by a visit by its authors to Algiers, where they were received by the Secretary of State for the Algerian Community Abroad. However, the Uruguayan delegation did not visit the Tindouf camps. Morocco and Algeria have held observer status in PARLACEN since 2015 and 2023, respectively. The Central American Parliament includes El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, and the Dominican Republic. Its current president for the 2024–2025 term is Carlos René Hernández of El Salvador, a country that officially recognizes Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara.
