After the ANC's rebuke, Julius Malema has now added his voice to the criticism of Jacob Zuma's support for Morocco's sovereignty over Western Sahara. On Monday, July 21, the EFF leader slammed the former president, calling Zuma a «sellout» and «questioning his position and that of his party in relation to Morocco». «We are very clear, we are for the people of Western Sahara and we must make sure that they too realise their freedom in their lifetime», Malema told reporters. His comments follow the ANC's condemnation of Zuma's recent visit to Morocco, denounced by President Cyril Ramaphosa. Malema's Economic Freedom Fighters, which he founded in 2013 after breaking away from the ANC, won 39 seats in the May 29, 2024 legislative elections, becoming South Africa's fourth-largest party. A former ANC Youth League leader, Malema has largely stuck to the party's traditional positions, unlike Jacob Zuma, whose political trajectory has taken a different turn.
