Eight Moroccan artisans have recently completed a high-level training program at the Faenza Art Ceramic Center (FACC), an international pottery school that promotes and enhances art and pottery in Italy, marking the conclusion of the second edition of a cooperation project between the Moroccan government and the Italian institution. According to local media, the artisans, selected from among Morocco's finest craftspeople, spent four weeks in Faenza, from July 7 to August 1, participating in a 160-hour intensive course divided into four modules: ceramic design, plaster molds, decoration, and glaze chemistry. During their stay, they lived in the historic city center and visited renowned local ceramic workshops, while experimenting with new techniques alongside Italian professionals. «We are very proud of this collaboration with Morocco, a country with a strong artisan tradition», said Gian Piero Merendi, president of FACC. «This week, we had the pleasure of meeting a highly respected representative of the most dynamic Moroccan artisanal communities. With them, we have initiated a collaborative process that encompasses planning, education, technology applied to ceramics, design, and contemporary arts. This is a valuable exchange of information and experiences that can help both sides address the major challenges of contemporary craftsmanship», added Faenza Mayor Massimo Isola. It is worth noting that the initiative is supported by Morocco's national body for the promotion of craftsmanship Maison de l'Artisan. Celebrated with an official visit to the Sala Rossa of the Faenza Town Hall, the program fostered meaningful intercultural exchange between Italian and Moroccan ceramic traditions and is part of a broader agreement that includes not only training courses in Faenza, but also artistic residencies and educational activities in Morocco.
