Last week, the investigative judge at the Rabat Court of Appeal, following instructions from the Public Prosecutor, ordered the detention of a man in his thirties at the Tamesna local prison under provisional custody. He is suspected of assaulting a 12-year-old girl in exchange for 5 dirhams, according to Assabah newspaper. This decision came after a complaint was filed by the father of the victim, who is in the sixth grade of primary school, to the Public Prosecution. He confirmed that his daughter had been lured and sexually assaulted, prompting the intervention of the unit responsible for handling cases of violence against women and minors, and the referral of the case to the competent investigative judge. In coordination with the Public Prosecutor, members of the Royal Gendarmerie's Judicial Center in Aïn El-Aouda set up a trap for the suspect after arranging a prior meeting with him. He was caught in the act while attempting to lure the minor again, before being taken to the center for further investigation. Investigations revealed conversations between the two parties that included inappropriate language, along with initial confessions documented in the police reports, although the accused later denied these confessions before the Public Prosecutor and the investigative judge. The first detailed investigation session is scheduled for mid-December, pending the completion of the ongoing investigation.
