DR ‹ › On the occasion of the commemoration of the presentation of the Manifesto of Independence, King Mohammed VI granted a Royal Pardon to 1,386 people convicted by various courts across the Kingdom, the Ministry of Justice announced on Saturday. According to the official statement, 1,157 beneficiaries were in detention. Among them, 23 inmates benefited from a pardon on the remaining part of their prison sentence, 1,133 received a remission of their prison or reclusion sentence, and one life sentence was commuted to a fixed-term sentence. The Royal Pardon also covered 214 individuals who were not in detention, including 69 who received a pardon on their prison sentence or its remainder, 9 whose prison sentence was pardoned while maintaining the fine, 124 who benefited from a pardon on fines, 11 who received a pardon on both prison and fine penalties, and one person who benefited from a pardon on a fine and the remaining prison term. In addition, King Mohammed VI extended his Royal Grace to 15 detainees convicted in extremism and terrorism-related cases, after they obtained Royal approval by officially expressing their commitment to the nation's constants and institutions, revising their ideological positions, and renouncing extremism and terrorism. Of these, nine received a pardon on the remaining part of their sentence, while six benefited from a remission of the remaining prison term. The statement concludes with prayers for the King, described as a source of clemency and mercy, and for Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan and the Royal Family.
