DR ‹ › The Italian maritime company GNV has announced plans to strengthen maritime links between Spain and Morocco by deploying new vessels on its fleet starting next summer. The ships will operate on the direct routes connecting the port of Barcelona with the port of Tangier. In a statement released on Wednesday on the sidelines of the International Tourism Fair in Madrid, the company said the new vessels will be larger, more efficient, and more environmentally sustainable. It added that it is working closely with both Spanish and Moroccan authorities to ensure the routes are operational as soon as possible. GNV's CEO, Matteo Catani, said the company is coordinating with the relevant authorities to bring the new ships into service on routes to Morocco starting this summer. He described the move as a strategic step aimed at strengthening connectivity between the two countries through modern and environmentally friendly vessels. The statement received by Yabiladi also stressed that cooperation with various stakeholders, including Spanish and Moroccan authorities, port operators, diplomatic missions, and ministries, remains essential to improving infrastructure, port services, and transport systems, in order to deliver tangible benefits to regions and local populations. According to the statement, the new ships will offer significant advantages for passengers, most of whom are Moroccans living abroad, as well as for local communities. However, it noted that fully harnessing this potential requires addressing certain infrastructure-related challenges in Moroccan ports. In this regard, local authorities are working closely with GNV's technical teams to identify rapid solutions, particularly to enable regular operations at the port of Tanger Med starting next summer.
