DR ‹ › In the midst of winter, residents of the Tindouf camps are grappling with a water shortage, an unusual situation for this time of year. On social media, many are sounding the alarm and calling for urgent supplies. Such shortages typically occur during the summer, when temperatures soar to extreme levels, not in winter. This comes just weeks after heavy rainfall caused flooding in parts of the camps. Despite this context, residents are now denouncing what they describe as a severe lack of access to drinking water. Meanwhile, the Polisario leadership has remained silent. The issue of water scarcity was not even on the agenda during meetings held on Saturday and Sunday between Brahim Ghali and senior movement officials. Those meetings focused primarily on preparations for upcoming discussions on the Sahara issue, initiated by the Trump administration and scheduled for February 23 and 24 in the United States. Beyond the water shortage, residents of the Tindouf camps are also facing cuts in food aid distributed by the Sahrawi Red Crescent, further worsening already precarious living conditions.
