DR ‹ › Morocco's strategy to accelerate the economic development of its southern provinces continues to garner attention from major global powers. After the United States, France, the United Kingdom, and more recently Belgium, Germany has now joined this growing list. Berlin has officially expressed its support for the economic advancement of the Moroccan Sahara. This announcement came on Thursday in Rabat, delivered by German Foreign Minister Johann David Wadephul during a press briefing following his meeting with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita. Wadephul outlined that Germany's commitment is aimed at «achieving sustainable development and fostering a conducive investment climate, especially by encouraging greater participation from German companies». He highlighted Morocco's role as a «regional economic powerhouse», noting that the kingdom's strengths, particularly in the Sahara, are set to enhance the bilateral partnership further. The German minister also praised the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2797 in October 2025, stating that «genuine autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty is the most promising solution». In this regard, he affirmed Germany's support for the Security Council's efforts and urged «all parties to engage in resolving the conflict based on the Moroccan autonomy plan», with the objective of finding a lasting resolution to this regional issue. Nasser Bourita and Johann David Wadephul co-chaired the second session of the Morocco-Germany Multidimensional Strategic Dialogue on Thursday in Rabat.
