DR ‹ › Mali announced on Friday, April 10, that it has withdrawn its recognition of the so-called «Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic» (SADR), following an «in-depth analysis» of the Sahara issue and its impact on sub-regional peace and security. The decision was outlined in a government declaration issued after a meeting in Bamako between Malian Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop and his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita, who is visiting the country on high instructions of King Mohammed VI. In the same statement, Mali expressed its support for Morocco's autonomy plan, describing it as «the only serious and credible basis» for resolving the dispute, and considered that a genuine autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty remains «the most realistic solution». Bamako also reaffirmed its support for United Nations efforts, including those led by the Secretary-General's Personal Envoy, and relevant Security Council resolutions, notably Resolution 2797 adopted on October 31, 2025. The Malian government further highlighted the «historic and solid» ties with Morocco and announced that the decision will be shared with regional and international organizations, as well as with the diplomatic corps accredited in Bamako.
