On Sunday evening, Moroccan authorities in Dakhla expelled three Spanish nationals: a journalist from the daily «Público» and two members of the Coordination of Associations in Solidarity with the Sahara (CEAS). According to a CEAS press release, all three were «sent to investigate the alarming human rights situation experienced by the Sahrawi civilian population in the occupied areas of Western Sahara». Both «Público» and CEAS have lodged complaints with the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the expulsions. Meanwhile, the Polisario Front has condemned the decision by the Moroccan authorities, labeling it as «intimidation» against «human rights observers». The Front's representative in Spain stated, «The main aim of these measures is to silence the voices and initiatives calling for the right to self-determination of the people of Western Sahara». This incident follows previous expulsions of foreign Polisario supporters from the region, the most recent of which occurred last November when four Norwegian citizens were expelled from Laâyoune.
