World Bank Vice President for the Middle East and North Africa, Ousmane Dione, reaffirmed on Wednesday in Rabat the institution's commitment to supporting Morocco in its preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup. «The World Bank renews its commitment to assisting Morocco in its World Cup preparations, aiming to turn planned investments and infrastructure projects into drivers of job creation, competitiveness, and economic growth», Dione stated during a meeting with Minister Delegate in charge of the Budget, Faouzi Lekjaa. He commended the strong partnership between the World Bank and Morocco, highlighting the diversity of projects supported by the institution and their significant impact on the country's socio-economic development. Dione also acknowledged Morocco's efforts in key areas such as social protection, territorial development, and infrastructure. For his part, Lekjaa emphasized that Morocco's structural reforms and sectoral strategies have bolstered economic dynamism and reinforced the foundations of the social state. He pointed to the country's progress in railway and sports infrastructure, social protection, sustainable development, and regional balance. He also underlined Morocco's commitment to ensuring that preparations for the 2030 World Cup maximize the event's positive impact on national growth and development, particularly in employment, entrepreneurship, tourism, traditional industries, and transportation.
