Sought since Friday following the Islamophobic attack at the Grand-Combe mosque in France, the main suspect has turned himself in to police northwest of Florence, Italy. According to BFMTV, the prosecutor confirmed that Olivier A. surrendered on Sunday at 11 p.m. at the Pistoia police station, where he was taken into custody. Extradition proceedings are now underway, the same source said. After the fatal stabbing of Aboubakar Cissé, a young man from Mali, the suspect was identified, spotted in Hérault, and later managed to evade investigators. A «manhunt» was subsequently launched, with authorities pursuing an Islamophobic motive. Born in Lyon in 2004, the suspect is a French national, unemployed, and previously unknown to authorities. BFMTV also reports that he is reportedly from the traveler community. On the day of the attack, he allegedly filmed the murder. On Sunday evening, French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau told the press that in the video, the attacker even «expressed the desire to become a serial killer» and had planned to kill «two more» people. Following the arrest, Retailleau praised the judges and investigators for their efforts. The Alès prosecutor also described the arrest as a «great satisfaction». Meanwhile, a white march in tribute to the victim brought together over a thousand people on Sunday afternoon in Grand-Combe, between the mosque where the attack took place and the town hall. Another gathering was held in Paris, attended by political figures, including Jean-Luc Mélenchon.
