Morocco is considered a «strategic and reliable» partner of Germany in the field of migration, according to Joachim Stamp, the German federal government's special envoy for migration agreements. He made the statement in Essaouira during the third meeting of the permanent Moroccan-German Joint Migration Group. Stamp emphasized the strength of the partnership between the two countries and their shared commitment to deepening migration cooperation. He described Morocco as a trustworthy partner, highlighting a relationship built on mutual respect and a common vision of migration as a driver of development. He also praised the Moroccan community in Germany, calling it an asset and an enrichment to German society. On legal mobility, Stamp pointed to Germany's new skilled immigration law, which opens up opportunities for young Moroccans seeking to work, study, or train in Germany. On the economic front, he welcomed the progress of bilateral cooperation, especially in the renewable energy sector, including wind power projects in Essaouira supported by German industry. The meeting served as a platform to review bilateral cooperation on both regular and irregular migration, with a focus on promoting legal mobility and developing joint initiatives to advance migration as a tool for shared development. The permanent Moroccan-German Joint Migration Group held its first meeting on January 23, 2024, in Marrakech.
