DR ‹ › The ninth edition of the «Jazz under the Argan Tree» festival is set to light up Essaouira from December 27 to 29, 2025, under the auspices of the Essaouira-Mogador Association. «The latest gem in Essaouira's vibrant lineup of music festivals, Jazz under the Argan Tree, guided by the visionary Majid Bekkas, promises a 2025 edition that will linger in memory», the association declared in a statement. Over three days, jazz aficionados will be treated to a dozen concerts and jam sessions, showcasing the genre's diverse richness. Expect the soulful breath of the saxophone, the pulse of top-tier drummers, and the enchanting strings of instruments ranging from the double bass to the guitar, and from the violin to the piano. This edition is poised to be extraordinary, particularly with the participation of two of Essaouira's own prodigious talents, celebrated worldwide in the jazz community for their harmonious mastery. Featured artists include Mohammed Derouich, the favored guitarist of Ibrahim Maalouf, and Rhani Krija, the legendary German percussionist known for his collaboration with Sting. Derouich will perform alongside Stéphane Galland, a luminary drummer from the European scene, and Mihai Privan, a distinguished Roma saxophonist from Romania. Rhani will captivate audiences with Jacob Karizon, a Swedish pianist renowned for weaving Moroccan rhythms into his music. The festival lineup also boasts the Jet Fuel Trio, a Danish ensemble drawing inspiration from the African heritage of the Gambian kora. The JD Allen Trio will evoke the spirit of John Coltrane, while the Andres Coll Cosmic Trio from Ibiza promises an unexpected dive into avant-groove. The Belgian trio Munsch will feature Mourad Belouadi, a versatile multi-instrumentalist from Mhamid Al Ghizlane, for an unforgettable performance.
