Morocco, guided by its historical responsibility and as chair of the Jerusalem Committee, considers the two-state solution the key to ensuring security and stability in the region, Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita stated Tuesday in Rabat. Speaking at the opening of the fifth meeting of the International Coalition for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution—held in Morocco in partnership with the Kingdom of the Netherlands under the theme «Sustaining Momentum for the Peace Process: Lessons Learned, Success Stories, Next Steps», Bourita affirmed that the two-state solution «is the only option without losers, as everyone benefits: Palestinians gain freedom and dignity, Israelis their security and stability, and the entire region its prospects for development». He stressed, «The two-state solution is not an empty slogan or a diplomatic bargaining tool, but a moral obligation and a realistic political option that cannot be postponed». Bourita added, «There are those who lose from this solution: extremists on all sides who thrive on conflict and exist only in its shadow. They trade slogans and claim to support the Palestinian people without offering even a sack of rice, preferring opposition to responsibility». He emphasized that the two-state solution is a historic option endorsed by the international community decades ago. Despite crises, it remains the only viable path toward a just and lasting settlement, enabling the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. The minister recalled that Morocco, under the leadership of its kings, from King Hassan II to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Jerusalem Committee, has remained steadfast in this commitment. Moroccan diplomacy has worked calmly and effectively to promote the chances of a just peace. Bourita highlighted that the King, in his address at the last Arab Summit in Baghdad, outlined key steps to break the current impasse: immediate cessation of military operations; addressing West Bank aggressions including demolitions and forced displacement; ensuring humanitarian aid access; supporting UNRWA; and launching an integrated reconstruction plan supervised by the Palestinian Authority with Arab and international oversight, aligned with the last Cairo Summit decisions. «But let us be clear: no economic aid can replace a political solution. We seek not temporary fixes but a radical remedy to the conflict», he stressed, urging enrichment of the «Compendium» Morocco plans to present jointly with the Netherlands. He concluded that convening this meeting amid the tragic situation in the Palestinian territories, especially the ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza, is more than a diplomatic event, it is a message of hope and a practical step to reactivate the two-state solution through concrete measures. «At this critical historical moment», the minister emphasized, «we believe our coalition is among the most promising initiatives to revitalize peace efforts by proposing concrete steps that advance the political process and create the momentum necessary to establish the two-state solution as the only path to a just, comprehensive, and lasting peace for the Palestinian cause».
