Recently, the Criminal Chamber of the Tangier Court of Appeals sentenced a young man in his twenties to eight years in prison. According to Assabah newspaper, he was convicted of multiple counts of theft by snatching using a motorcycle, possession of bladed weapons, and endangering public safety, as well as the safety of individuals and property. The verdict was issued after the judicial panel confronted the 27-year-old defendant with evidence linking him to an assault on a 60-year-old German tourist. Photos and video recordings were presented in court, showing the defendant intercepting the victim on Al-Massira Street in the city center. He violently snatched her handbag while riding a motorcycle, causing her to fall and sustain injuries of varying severity that required hospital treatment. Despite the evidence, the defendant categorically denied all charges, describing them as «fabrications» and maintaining his innocence. The case dates back to May, when the German tourist filed a complaint with local security services. She reported being assaulted by an unknown individual riding a motorcycle, who snatched her handbag and threatened her with a bladed weapon in the course of the theft.
