The primary court in Targuist, near Al Hoceima, has sentenced a German tourist to a six-month suspended prison term and fined him 2,000 dirhams. This verdict follows a widely publicized incident in which he partially amputated his own genitalia while under the influence of drugs. The case dates back to an event in a village within the commune of Abdelghaya Souahel, where a judicial investigation was launched at the request of the public prosecutor. The man was charged with drug consumption and filing a false crime report after initially claiming that unknown assailants had attacked him and amputated part of his genitalia. It was later confirmed that these individuals were innocent. Investigations revealed that the tourist had injured himself during while intoxicated with a Moroccan friend, denying any involvement from his companion or local residents. His confession ended speculation, which had included rumors of an «honor crime» or «personal revenge», according to the newspaper Assabah. The incident triggered a security alert in the area, prompting the Royal Gendarmerie in Targuist to conduct a thorough sweep that led to several arrests. However, those detained were later cleared of any direct involvement by the judiciary. In related proceedings, two other individuals were sentenced: one received three months in prison and a 2,500-dirham fine for cannabis cultivation, while the other was handed a five-year prison term and various fines for possession, manufacturing, and trafficking of drugs, following the discovery of related equipment and materials in his possession.
