Morocco's National Tourist Office (ONMT) signed a strategic partnership with China Eastern Airlines on Monday, June 30, to boost the country's visibility in the Chinese market. The agreement, signed in the presence of Tourism Minister Fatim-Zahra Ammor, aims to position Morocco as a premium destination, according to a press release. «With China Eastern, we're deepening our presence in Asia and reinforcing our diversification strategy,» said Ammor. The deal includes joint marketing campaigns, media trips, promotional efforts, and enhanced air connectivity. ONMT Director General Achraf Fayda emphasized the long-term ambition behind the move, saying it reflects Morocco's commitment to opening up to dynamic, high-potential markets with an authentic and high-end tourism offer. This partnership builds on the launch of the Shanghai–Casablanca route via Marseille in January 2025, with a direct Shanghai–Casablanca flight set to begin in October 2025, operating three times a week. It will complement the existing Beijing–Casablanca route operated by Royal Air Maroc. With China Eastern's global reach, more than 820 aircraft and 1,000 international routes, Morocco hopes to attract 1 million Chinese tourists by 2030 and cement its role as a leading tourism hub in Africa.
