Algeria continues to lend its support to separatist movements in Morocco, having hosted an international conference yesterday focused on what was termed the «human rights situation in the occupied Rif». This event was organized by the so-called «National Rif Party», which advocates for the separation of the Rif region from Morocco. Mirroring the rhetoric of the Polisario Front, this separatist «party» accused the Moroccan state of perpetrating «crimes against the Rif people», and stressed what it described as «the right of these people, whose free will has been suppressed, to self-determination». According to Algerian media sources, the conference attracted a number of «politicians, human rights activists, and journalists from both within and outside Algeria». The spokesperson for the «National Rif Party» Yuba El Ghadoui, declared that the meeting's goal was to «initiate a legal and political process to revive the Rif issue, which has long been shrouded in silence and obscurity, and systematically marginalized in official narratives». He commended what he termed «Algeria's support for just causes and oppressed peoples». Founded in September 2023 in Brussels, the «National Rif Party» subsequently established a presence in Algiers and urged the Polisario to coordinate efforts «to confront the Moroccan occupation».
