For four days, members of the Spanish Civil Guard and the Moroccan Royal Gendarmerie conducted joint land, sea, and air patrols as part of ongoing efforts to combat irregular migration and drug trafficking, according to Spanish media reports. A delegation from the Moroccan Royal Gendarmerie visited Spain from July 14 to 18, taking part in coordinated patrols with Civil Guard units in Granada, particularly along the «Costa Tropical» coastline. These operations aim to disrupt smuggling networks involved in illegal migration and drug trafficking from North Africa. In a statement, the Civil Guard said the initiative seeks to «strengthen cooperation and mutual understanding between the two security forces». This joint effort builds on a longstanding partnership between the Spanish Civil Guard and the Moroccan Royal Gendarmerie, which began in early 2004 but was temporarily suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic. On July 15, one of the patrols uncovered more than 2,800 kilograms of hashish concealed inside a semi-trailer. A new round of joint patrols is planned for December, when Civil Guard officers from Granada are expected to visit Al Hoceima to work alongside their Moroccan counterparts.
