The Public Prosecution at the Rabat Primary Court ordered, on Tuesday, the pre-trial detention of activist Ibtissame Lachgar and referred her directly to trial. The decision came after she posted a photo on social media wearing a t-shirt with phrases deemed blasphemous and offensive to the divine entity. Last Sunday, the Public Prosecutor at the same court announced in a statement that an investigation had been opened, placing her in police custody pending its completion. The statement stressed that appropriate legal measures would be taken once inquiries were concluded. The photo sparked widespread outrage among Moroccans, with many calling for her to be held accountable. Among them was former Minister of Justice Mustapha Ramid, who described her action as «a premeditated act and a deliberate offense to the divine entity».
