On Wednesday evening, the Rabat Primary Court dismissed the defense team's plea for the temporary release of activist Ibtissame Lachgar. Lachgar's legal representatives, who are defending her against accusations of «blasphemy», had filed a request for her provisional release. They argued that her deteriorating health condition necessitates immediate attention. Lachgar is battling cancer and urgently needs surgery on her semi-artificial left arm, which is scheduled for September. In yesterday's court session, her three lawyers underscored the urgency of the situation, highlighting that her doctor has warned that any postponement of this surgery could lead to the amputation of the remaining part of her arm. It is important to note that Ibtissame Lachgar was taken into custody on August 10 in Rabat after a social media post showed her wearing a shirt with words deemed blasphemous.
