Amina Bouayach, President of Morocco's National Human Rights Council and Chair of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI), received the key to the city of San Salvador on Monday from the capital's mayor, on the sidelines of the World Human Rights Summit taking place from September 2 to 4. On this occasion, Bouayach emphasized that the honor represents recognition of the work of national institutions and human rights defenders worldwide, stressing that protecting human dignity remains a shared responsibility requiring constant commitment. In addition to the symbolic significance of receiving the city's key, the summit also paid special tribute to Bouayach, celebrating her journey as a Moroccan woman, a national leader, and a regional and international advocate for the protection of rights and freedoms and the prevention of violations. The ceremony also featured presentations by summit organizers highlighting Morocco's democratic transformations, structural reforms, and best practices over the past two decades. «This honor», Bouayach said, «is an honor for women for Moroccan women, for African women, for all women human rights defenders. It is a tribute to all those, women and men alike, who defend human dignity». Bouayach, together with regional and international figures, opened the summit's proceedings by calling for a joint roadmap built around six priorities: dignity and the prevention of abuses and torture in places of deprivation of liberty; the protection of migrants' rights; climate and environmental justice alongside social justice; human rights in artificial intelligence and the digital sphere; inclusion; and political participation.
