The father of imprisoned Hirak leader Nasser Zefzafi, Ahmed Zefzafi, has passed away after a long battle with illness. The news was announced by his son Tareq in a Facebook post. «My dear father has passed away. We belong to God, and to Him we shall return», he wrote. Ahmed Zefzafi had been receiving treatment for a prolonged illness at a hospital in Al Hoceima. In August, Tareq revealed on Facebook that his father's condition had worsened, requiring his transfer to intensive care. Back in May, Nasser Zefzafi was granted permission by the General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration to visit his ailing father. Nasser Zefzafi has been incarcerated since May 29, 2017. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison on multiple charges, including «orchestrating a conspiracy to undermine the internal security of the state,» «participating in the commission of a felony against state security,» and «receiving funds, gifts, and other benefits intended to support and finance activities and propaganda that could harm the unity and sovereignty of the Kingdom of Morocco.»
