Luxury publisher Assouline has released a new book paying tribute to La Mamounia, the legendary Marrakech palace hotel. Written by French journalist Laurence Benaim, the book captures the hotel's distinctive blend of Moroccan craftsmanship and Art Deco elegance. «To me, La Mamounia is more than just a hotel; it's a haven of memory and beauty, a place where Moroccan craftsmanship shines and the tradition of warm, noble hospitality is unmatched», Benaim told Vogue Arabia in an article announcing the release on Tuesday. The volume highlights iconic details such as zellige tiles, Benaim's favorite design element, Berber-crafted chandeliers, and gardens featuring more than 700 orange trees. It also retraces the property's history, from its 18th-century origins under Sultan Mohammed Ben Abdallah to its status as a retreat for global icons like Winston Churchill and Yves Saint Laurent. «Through the thoughtful gestures that accompany every moment, here, you are always welcomed with a smile that comes straight from the heart», Benaim emphasized. La Mamounia, with its 135 rooms and 71 suites, underwent extensive renovations starting in 2020 to transform its ground-floor spaces. Designed by renowned duo Patrick Jouin and Sanjit Manku, the project unfolded in two phases. The second phase, completed in September 2023, elevated the property with touches both subtle and spectacular, leaving La Mamounia more elegant than ever as it enters its second century.
