The Court of Appeals in Tangier has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for murdering his wife by pouring hot oil on her, causing fatal burns. During the trial, the defendant admitted that his marriage, which lasted about a year and eight months, had been marked by constant conflict. He claimed he was the «wronged» party in the relationship. On the night of the incident, he said, an argument escalated while he was in the kitchen preparing food. According to his account, he lost control after being insulted and poured hot oil on his wife, insisting that he had not intended to kill her. The victim's family strongly rejected this version in statements to the media, arguing that the crime was premeditated. They stressed that the quantity of oil used went far beyond normal cooking amounts and caused second- and third-degree burns that led to her death. They also stated that their daughter was not arguing with her husband at the time but was asleep in her bed when he deliberately heated the oil and poured it on her.
