The Secretary General of the Justice and Development Party (PJD), Abdelilah Benkirane, has once again addressed the organizers of the GenZ 212 demonstrations. In a video released on Tuesday, October 7, he welcomed the group's decision to suspend protests for two days, on Tuesday and Wednesday. However, Benkirane warned that resuming demonstrations on Thursday could be perceived as «pressure» on King Mohammed VI, as the date coincides with the monarch's opening of the new parliamentary year. He urged the organizers of GenZ 212 to extend their suspension until Friday «out of respect for the King» and to preserve Morocco's international image. The PJD leader reaffirmed that «the message from the youth has indeed reached» the relevant authorities. As a reminder, Benkirane had previously called on the movement's initiators to end their protests, warning of the risk of «security chaos». He cautioned that such a situation could «lead to violent clashes and assaults that no one could control».
