FIFA confirmed Wednesday that the FIFA Unites: Women's Series 2025, a four-team friendly tournament organized to promote access, inclusion, and opportunities for women in football, has been relocated from Dubai to Morocco and rescheduled to begin this Sunday. Originally set to feature Chad, Libya, and the United Arab Emirates, the revised lineup now includes Afghan Women United, a refugee team supported by FIFA, alongside Chad, Tunisia, and Libya. The tournament was moved from the UAE after Afghan players were denied entry visas, prompting FIFA, just three days before kickoff, to shift the event to Morocco. Initially scheduled for October 23, the matches will now kick off on October 26, leaving players, coaches, and organizers with a tight window to travel, acclimatize, and prepare. «FIFA would like to thank the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) and looks forward to working together to host a successful tournament», the organization said in a statement released Monday. This edition stands out for marking the return of the Afghan team. The Afghanistan's women's team has not played an official match since 2018, with the Taliban's return to power in 2021 effectively shutting down women's sports. While the refugee team cannot yet officially represent Afghanistan, FIFA reiterated its continued support for Afghan women's football under its 2025 Action Strategy. All matches will be broadcast live on FIFA's official streaming platform.
