On Friday in Rabat, the Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdessamad Kayouh, held talks with Hassan Ali Joho, Kenya's Minister of Mines, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs. Their discussions centered on enhancing bilateral cooperation in the maritime, air transport, and logistics sectors. The two officials committed to promptly finalizing a memorandum of understanding on technical cooperation. «We explored several areas of collaboration between Kenya and Morocco, particularly in maritime security, mobility, and connectivity», stated the Kenyan minister, in a message posted on X. «Our exchange also covered the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the upcoming Council elections. Kenya commends Morocco's exemplary efforts within the IMO Council, Category C, and reiterates its support for Morocco's candidacy for a new term. In turn, Morocco assured Kenya of its backing for its re-election in the same category». In a statement to the press, Minister Kayouh emphasized that this productive meeting facilitated a thorough exchange on bolstering maritime and air cooperation, particularly through the sharing of expertise in maritime training and the establishment of a link between the ports of Mombasa and Tanger Med. He also highlighted Morocco's expertise in maritime training, which serves as a model to be shared with Kenya, especially on the technical front, regarding the training of ship captains according to international standards. As a reminder, Kenya supports the Moroccan autonomy plan for Western Sahara. This position was expressed on May 25 in Rabat by Kenyan Foreign Affairs Minister Musalia Mudavadi during his meeting with his Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita.
