An Austrian automotive supplier, Hirschmann Automotive, has expanded its presence in Morocco with the inauguration of a new factory at the Oujda Technopole, within the Cleantech Industrial Acceleration Zone. Built on an area of 22,200 square meters with an investment of 180 million dirhams, the facility complements the company's existing plant in Kenitra. The new site is expected to create around 600 direct jobs by the end of 2026, up from 70 currently, boosting both the company's operations and the economic growth of Morocco's Oriental region. Initially, the Oujda plant will focus on high-voltage components and custom cable assemblies. During the inauguration ceremony, attended by local and regional officials, the Wali of the Oriental region, Khatib El Hebil, said the new unit reflects investor confidence in the region's industrial and human potential, describing Oujda as an emerging hub for industrial, technological, and logistics development. Two partnership agreements were also signed, one between Hirschmann Automotive and Mohammed First University (UMP-Oujda), and another with the School of Advanced Engineering Studies (EHEI-Oujda), to strengthen training and research collaboration in the field of automotive technology.
