Morocco is set to host the second round of the newly launched FIFA Women's Champions Cup on December 14 at the municipal stadium in Berrechid, as announced by the world football federation. In the first round, held on October 8, Chinese club Wuhan Chegu Jiangda (WFC), the reigning champions of the Asian Women's Champions League, secured a victory against Oceania champions Auckland United with a 1-0 scoreline. They will now face the winner of the CAF Women's Champions League, which is currently underway in Egypt and will conclude on November 21. The winner of this upcoming match will advance to the final round, according to a statement from FIFA. This inaugural edition of the tournament brings together the six continental champions from the last complete season, with the goal of crowning the world's best women's club. In the final round, Arsenal Women FC, the European champions, will compete against the team that emerges victorious from the second round. Meanwhile, Gotham FC, representing Concacaf, will face the Brazilian team Corinthians, the CONMEBOL champions, in the other semi-final. Approved by the FIFA Council in May 2024, the Women's Champions Cup is scheduled for years when the Women's Club World Cup is not held, with the first edition of the latter set for 2028. These new competitions are part of FIFA's broader strategy to enhance opportunities for women's club football. FIFA also revealed the cup's visual identity, which features a striking black and gold color scheme. The emblem prominently displays a large «W», symbolizing strength, empowerment, and the ongoing rise of women's football.
