Due to injury, Moroccan defender Nayef Aguerd has left the national team training camp after being called up by coach Walid Regragui for the two friendlies against Mozambique and Uganda in preparation for AFCON. According to La Provence, the 29-year-old returned this weekend to La Commanderie, Olympique de Marseille's training center, to continue his treatment ahead of the tournament, which begins in late December. Aguerd's injury resurfaced on November 8, just before OM's match against Brest. Although he was on the bench for Morocco's first friendly, Morocco vs. Mozambique (1–0) on Friday in Tangier, OM coach Roberto De Zerbi requested that he return to the club to recover. His rehabilitation remains crucial, as he is still expected to be part of Morocco's defensive lineup for AFCON. Unfortunately for the Atlas Lions, Aguerd is not the only injured player. Achraf Hakimi, the captain of the national team and a right back defender, is also recovering from a severe sprain on his left ankle, according to an official report from Paris Saint German.
