In Rabat, former Tunisian President Moncef El Marzouki declared last night that «the Sahrawis in the Tindouf camps are hostages, victims of the policy pursued by the Algerian regime for the past 50 years». These comments were made during a conference held in his honor by the Democratic Forces Front (FFD). El Marzouki hailed the UN Security Council's adoption of Resolution 2797 as «historic». He expressed disappointment that «the Algerian regime» had failed to learn from this development. «They continue to repeat the same narrative: we are not a party to this and the Sahara is a decolonization issue. But who do they think they're fooling? No one believes them», he asserted. The former president also urged Moroccans to differentiate between «the policy of the current Tunisian regime regarding the conflict between Morocco and Algeria and the approach followed by Tunisia under Presidents Bourguiba, Ben Ali, myself, and Béji Sebsi». Speaking from Rabat, El Marzouki called for the revival of the Arab Maghreb Union, lamenting that «the Algerian regime» did not respond to the outstretched hand of King Mohammed VI in his speech on October 31.
